This seems to be a hot topic over the last several years, with private companies and governments both projecting new missions to the red planet.
What are your thoughts on this new step in space exploration? Is it even possible with the aggressive timelines being set?
To help spur some of the debate we had an aerospace engineer write about his thoughts on Space X and their plans to visit Mars.
Let me know your thoughts!
Space exploration is something I have aspired for being a lover of levitating objects. Elon is feeding tomorrows generation with what to muse on and reach out and touch the dwarf planets. Risk is not only inevitable but huge and numerous. If man will chatter extreme risk management and efficiency then we must be ready to step above the status quo of the moon. "Necessity is the mother of invention"-this slogan is still as true as it has ever been.
I totally agree. I think half of what Elon does is inspire people to reach for the stars and think that anything is possible. I hope that he can eventually back it up though as I would be worried if he builds up these grandiose ideas and they fall flat.
Another thing to look at is the Chinese space activities.
For the past two decades, they have sent their compatriots into space, operated a space station, and started a lunar program. The Chinese set a timetable and kept it until now.
I see a serious advocate in the CNSA when it comes to first putting their foot on Mars.
I am not sure how much mission to Mars or other space programs are crucial for humanity as a small virus can destro everything here and we don't know how to cope with. But I prefer that humanity "plays" with the toy called space exploration, mission to Mars/Moon, etc instead of killing each other.
