No very simple, you install the Arduino soft then you connect and normaly it's done.

Does I need special cable to connect over 0.5 m leight?

I dont think so..

It's been a long time, but I think I remember having trouble connecting an Arduino to the computer through a hub. A quick Google search shows that people have mixed results with that. You might have better luck connecting it directly to a computer, or trying a different hub.

Something else to check is sometimes with a clone board they will use a different USB adapter chip and you need to download a different driver for the computer to recognize the board.
