Any others in this group use Solidworks to design furniture?
If so, are you using top down design methods, bottom up or multi body parts?
Myself, I am using top down, playing around with layout sketching to drive the entire assembly.
I think most of all loosing time those who insist on using solidwork in furniture design
I use solidworks, multi body metode is good for fast design. Assembly just for animate design like hinge, butterfly extension, etc.
i think solidworks is solution of fast design, just 2hour to create nice chair with construction drawing

Can you tell us which software do you use?

3dsmax, maxon c4d and cayia
As furniture design is not my main area of work or expertise, whenever I need to design something I use whatever software I have at the time. Back in the past, it was a pencil, paper and drawing board, then 2D cad. My main software now is Alibre Design which I purchased for mechanical and machine design. If I specialized in furniture design I would research what was available and base my choice on this research.
Solidworks allows you to parameterize the product, and to resize as desired.
I used to work in a furniture store in Brazil selling custom-made kitchens and general furniture using a software called Promob (sample below) which is quite similar to 20-20 Design. The software had a big library of cabinets etc but I could create my own stuff on it as well. I was 4 years off the 3D world, started this month studying Blender, so I want to comeback adding animated presentations and better renderings. So far, I'm not dissapointed with Blender. It has been fun to learn... I just have to be patient as it gonna be months to build my own library with a reasonable size for work...
I use Solidworks to create my designs leveraging on the multi-body design capabilities of the software to speed up my design process with a top-down approach... The weldment feature allows me to make quick cut layouts with precise dimensions when working boards
