I think the best approach would be to start with

1. understand the working of the parts
2. design a part by referencing any sample drawing using solidoworks/ ansys design modellor
3. identify the major parameters
4. reference the parameters inside solidoworks/ ansys design modellor
5. define the problem/condition for your analysis ( what are the boundary condition which means what forces are applied on which part and what are the surrounding conditions )
6. verify the problem results by doing the pen copy calculations which can be used further to verify your ansys results
7. use ansys mechanical to arrange the analysis system which are to be used
8. apply forces inside ansys mechanical then apply suitable boundary conditions
9. run the solution
10. for advanced ansys simulation you can use parameter option inside ansys mechanical , then you can also optimize the model using optimize function of ansys mehcanical
11. you can also use Matlab and python for reducing the computation time of ansys mehcanical
