Is rhino a useful tool for 3d printing? And what add-ons do you find important for this purpose? I have read about grasshopper for generative designs ready for 3d printing. Have you tried it? Thank you for your responses!
I started using Rhino because the teacher taught us how to use it during CAD classes, so I've pretty much used that since.
When you are doing a 3D model you always have to think ahead and ask yourself: "Is this part going to be printable with ease or is the shape going to create problems?"
I believe the hard work needs to be done while modeling (regardless if it's Rhino or Grasshopper) in order to achieve a smooth and clean 3D printing and probably this might sound obvious to some.
With this being said, to answer your question, Rhino and other Softwares offer the possibility of exporting the model in various differents formats and extentions, so as well as the others it's still a solid tool for making model. A good option is probably to combine Softwares.
Not sure if I answered your question, it seemed to me a bit generic.
Let me know your doubts :)
Is rhino a useful tool for 3d printing? ==> hell yeah
Yes, Rhino is very usefull and it's also very easy to learn and use.
I used Rhino to make this model , and I usually use Netfabb to check if the .STL file created by Rhino, is 3D printable or not, check this .
With Rhino you can easily do a simpel check to see if it is 3d printable, menu: Analyze => Mass Properties ==> Volume
Oke = outcome result calculation volume
Not Oke = Popup with error message ==> Then use menu: Surface => Edge Tools => Show Edges => select Naked Edges
Nice trick,
I didn't know that and this going to be very useful.
Thank you
Yes, it is.But sometimes it's a little tricky for me when "Join edges" doesn't work properly because of unclosed edges.
If I want to make it easy for me, I open the file in MS 3D-Builder and let this program do the repair on import.
