Hi,I am Mechanical Engineer and have 6 years professional experience in automotive industry, as design professional I have done more than 24 projects, I'm expert in soliwork, autocad, creo 3d max, sketchup.
what does "I know well" mean in your understanding? if you understand top-down and dynamic design in SW or Creo, then this is good, but it has nothing to do with the profession of a design engineer (mechanical engineer). in my opinion, a design engineer is determined by what he knows in the profession.
I will assume that first of all you should study the regulatory documents of the country where you plan to work (in the Russian Federation it is GOST and sometimes ISO). Next, I recommend studying typical solutions to design problems (for example, designing "by neutrals"; I do not know if there is such a definition where you live because it is called differently everywhere).
conclusion: knowledge of software does not make you an expert in engineering.
my experience: more than 10 years as a design engineer (mechanical engineer), I have state awards, I teach the younger generation of the profession.
if you still have any questions, I will be happy to answer you
Hi Fellow MECHANCAL Engineers... lol...
You know the person who created this discussion is a true Engineer because of the spelling errors... lol.
Mechanical Engineer here with an extensive experience on product development and mass production manufacturing. Now solving the hard manufacturing & automation problems others run away from. :)
Feel free to reach out for any engineering design needs. Our company www.iEnVizion.com. We are based out of California.
Cheers!
Mechancal Engineers Unite! lol...
My understanding, you need comprehend the diff between Engineer & Designer first.
Engnieers are creation, means they can find realiable soultion & put it into implement.
Designers are implement, means they implement & carryout the proposal by all kind ways, like 2D/3D CAD, PPT, animation,simulation.etc.
But whatever for Engineer or Designer, 2D/3D CAD soft is just a tooling, you just perfession in one or two is enough.
If you want to became a good engineer, First you need keep curiosity on anyting you`ve seen, which might give you inspiration when you design.
Second, practice imagination, you can train & practice from seeing plenty of white paper of machines or parts, keep this as habite then you can have a vision like the 3D animation & deduction in your brain.
Third you need understand there are 3 factors need considered in your design, which are Cost, (Lead) Time & Reliability.
Normally engineer need match at least one factors,if you can match 2, you are doing good job.
On the other hand, you must avoiding the design which has no match any of these 3 fatcors, this is the worst design.
Do not have ambition to match all the factors, cause this factors are got conflict eachother. means you can not bulid a machine which low cost, short leading time but with high reliability,
You must find the real demand & try anything you can to match, that`s the Engineer does.
Hi Ejaz,
You want to develop yourself as Design engineer and want to know the skill you needed to perform the same, but you must check your Talent first. It is prime requirement for such a specialize area of engineering. Easily you can earn the skill but not the Talent.
Thanx for your guidance...
Appreciate it
