1. Rendering an Animation is ofcourse possible in solidworks. Example attached.

1. Step 1:

   Design the parts and put them in an assembly
   

   

2. Step 2:

   Create an exploded view with your parts (this is the Basic Animation you are looking for)
   

   

3. Step 3:

   You can then Switch to Motion study and fine tune the Animation with different camera view, part transparency etc. There are quite a few Features you can explore. You have the Chance to save the Animation as a Video file.
   

   

4. Step 4:

   Here you can also choose 'photo view' Rendering Option during creating the Animation to get a HD Quality animation
