  1. Step 1: Sketching with Converted Entities Creates a Guard

    In the design of a guard that is covering a set of gears on the assembly shown. Commands in SolidWorks sketch can help us to create or install this guard. By converting the outline of the mounting plate of the gear set, this will create the exact outline of the guard.

    Create a new part for the guard, convert the outline of the mounting plate, the extrude.



  2. Step 2: Extruded Outline of the Mounting Plate





  3. Step 3: The Extrusion is Made to Cover the Area where the Gears are.



  4. Step 4: Extrusion Made Transparent to Show Area Covered



  5. Step 5: With The Part File Open, Convert Extrusion to a Sheet Metal Part



  6. Step 6: Select the front surface as the fixed entity. All edges connected to the fixed entity should be selected as the bend edges.



  7. Step 7: Converted Sheet Metal Part in Place



  8. Step 8: The guard shown as a flat pattern.
