SolidWORKS Intersect Tool

This tutorial shows how to use the Intersect command in SolidWORKS

How to convert a part with a solid and a surface body into a single solid body

This tutorial is in response to:
https://grabcad.com/questions/best-way-to-turn-this-solid-surface-into-one-solid

  1. Step 1:

I like the 'Intersect' tool for this

  2. Step 2:

Select the bodies (this model has a solid and a surface)

  3. Step 3:

Then press the 'Intersect'button to populate all the intersecting regions.

***This will populate intersections between solids and surfaces so it can be used like the 'combine' feature but will do both additive and subtractive at the same time as well as fill empty closed volumes.

  4. Step 4:

In this example there are two regions. these are solid and the area encased between the solid and surface. We want both of these so no check boxes are required. if any regions are created that are not wanted they can be excluded.

We also want to have a single solid body so we will merge the results and we no longer need the surface so we will consume the surfaces (check both boxes)

  5. Step 5:

And now we are left with just one solid body.

  6. Step 6:
