Some concepts about DIN 5480 spline dimension Part 2

  1. Step 1: Test over pins

The shaft can be verified using balls or pins. Test dimensions over pins can be seen in the picture below. With an even number of teeth, use the dimension indicated with 1. Otherwise, use figure indicated with 2

  2. Step 2: Basic inspection dimensions

    In this case (DIN 5480 W 50 x 2 x 24 x 8h ) , the diameter of the pins must be 4 mm and the dimension will be M1 = 54.218 mm. See the figure below.

  3. Step 3: Distance between teeth

Another dimension to be verified is the distance between several teeth "k", Wk base tangent length over k teeth . In This case, k = 4 and Wk = 21.179 mm. See bellow.

  4. Step 4: Carefully inspection

An special attention must be putin how this dimension is taked.

    a) Unfavourable position near the tip

    b) Favourable position near the V circle

    c) Unfavourable position near the root form circle

    See figure below

  5. Step 5: Hub inspection

Also hub can be verifies using pins. See the figure below
