Tutorial - Simulation of ball basic motion in SolidWorks Part -5?

Here is the tutorial on basic motion. This is the main part of this tutorial.

  1. Step 1:

    Click Motion study 1.

  2. Step 2:

Now the motion manager shows up.

  3. Step 3:

Change the motion type from animation to basic motion.

  4. Step 4:

    Collapse the motion manager.

  5. Step 5:

    Click gravity icon.

  6. Step 6:

Change the direction to Y and downwards. Click OK.

  7. Step 7:

    Click Contact icon.

  8. Step 8:

Select all bodies & click OK. Basically there will be contact occuring between these parts. Since in this motion we have the contact between all bodies so I selected all parts.

  9. Step 9:

Now our model is prepared for basic motion.

  10. Step 10:

    Expand the motion manager.

  11. Step 11:

Drag the key to 12 seconds. This will be enough time for the whole motion since we have large gravity value.

  12. Step 12:

    Click Calculate icon.

  13. Step 13:

The motion occurs and the balls goto the bottom. As we can see that ther is contact between the parts.

  14. Step 14:

Click Gravity icon. We are now going to reduce the gravity so that we can have better representation.

  15. Step 15:

    Input the value of 200mm/s^2.

  16. Step 16:

Click Calculate icon again and we can see that this time balls moves more swiftly. This is because the gravity has been lowered for the whole system.

  17. Step 17:

Click Save animation to save the animation to video.

  18. Step 18:

Change custom aspect ratio to 4:3.

  19. Step 19:

Change Frame per second to 15. This will increase the smoothness. Higher the value higher will be the file size and smoother the animation but requiring more time and memory.

  20. Step 20:

Change Image size to 800 600. Keep them even because XviD is not going to work on odd image size.

  21. Step 21:

Select XviD MPEG-4 Codec. This is available in K-Lite Codec pack.

  22. Step 22:

    Click configure.

  23. Step 23:

Adjust the video settings here and click OK.

  24. Step 24:

Click OK and the SolidWorks will start saving video to directory.

  25. Step 25:

The saving process will go throught the whole animation again. Now we have succesfully created the basic motion of balls under a box.
