Tutorial: Convert .stl Mesh to Solid File in Autodesk Inventor

7 7 Beginner
I found today a post from a friend (Nuno) asking how to solve this issue, converting an .stl to solid .ipt. Then I remembered that I found something in the past regarding this conversion... Yeap! it was in Autodesk Labs So let me explain with couple of easy steps how this works...

Tutorial - Tip - insert a reference image into a sketch in SolidWorks

8 0 Beginner
I will show you how to insert a reference image into a sketch. You can do this in more then one sketch for a project and on more then one plane. When the image is no longer needed, just change the visibility of the sketch the image is in For this tutorial, I will be using an image of a vase to reference in creating a model of a similar vase.

Tutorial: How to convert a .Step-File to an independent .CatPart-File in Catia V5

Tutorial: How to perform a transient thermal analysis in SolidWorks

7 1 Beginner
This is a tutorial for the 'Software Tricks of the Trade' Challenge found here http://grabcad.com/challenges/software-tricks-of-the-trade Note: This is CPU intensive. You can view the tutorial files on GrabCad here: http://grabcad.com/library/tutorial-how-to-perform-a-transient-thermal-analysis-in-solidworks-1 The ZIP files contains the parts and assembly that I used to create this tutorial as well as some addition images that may help you find commands within SolidWorks. It also has the analysis saved. You can download it from the project link or you can additionally download the attached ZIP file, directly from here. A thermal analysis can be used to study the effects that temperature has on components or assemblies. Using a transient analysis can show you how the temperature varies with time. This tutorial will help you understand the basics of performing a transient thermal analysis in SolidWorks. Knowledge of heat transfer is preferable when doing a study like this.

Tutorial: How to get a helix on a spline/curve/polyline in Catia V5

The Helix curve function in Catia V5 only allows a helix on an axis or a line. But there is a trick to create a helix on a spline/curve or polyline.

Tutorial: How To Obtain Relative Accurate Results From Stress Analysis in Autodesk Inventor

4 0 Beginner
FEA is not a simple mathematical operation. Instead it is a computer-based iterative numerical technique along with inevitable discretization errors, as a function of elements. Therefore these errors can be reduced by... specifying more elements (H-refinement) or employing a higher order of polynomial at each iteration (P-refinement). Effectively more computational power is required to solve complex shaped geometries with high dense mesh (Elements). But how dense should be my mesh to get appropriate results without wasting hours on simulation ??? This is the Golden Question! ... There is a criterion for that, called Converged solution... In plain words the mesh does not need any further refinement (denser mesh) as long as the solution is "Converged". The solution is assumed to be "Converged" when the results of the polynomial eq. does not change according to a prespecified tolerance e.g. 10% Good Results, 0.1% Great Results. So, let me share some information how to manipulate the mesh for a model along with three examples. As a conclusion we will enhance your confidence regarding the results you get, whether are relatively accurate or not (Low Percentage of Discretization Errors) without wasting hours on simulation!!! Don't Forget the simulation results are nothing without any experimental results to compare with.
