How to model a flexible hose with varying inlet and outlet dia and show design intent.

This tutorial is intuitive and the commands used here are versatile.

  1. Step 1:

1.enter into GSD create axis system and select YZ plane. invoke the sketch

  2. Step 2:

2..revolve using revolve command and enter angle 1=360

  3. Step 3:

    3.create a plane

  4. Step 4:

4.draw a line using line command and constrain it.

  5. Step 5:

5.create a line using line command and enter the values

  6. Step 6:

6.now go to sweep command. for profile select the line(in step4) and guide curve as line(step5).go to law tab and enter the values

  7. Step 7:

7.intersect the two profiles, sweep and revolute using intersection command

  8. Step 8:

8.hide every thing except step 7.create an offset plane

  9. Step 9:

9.project the intersection on the plane using projection command. this projected curve will be the pitch for hose. you can manipulate the pitch by setting the angle in LAW tab under sweep(step 6)

  10. Step 10:

10.create a sketch on the plane created in step 8.

  11. Step 11:

11.select LAW command. if you don't see point your mouse to the bottom right click check LAW. select line as reference and projected curve as your definition. scaling factor is 0.2.this enables the law graph to increase it's scale so that you don't get any twisted surface after sweeping in step 13. A law is created in your model tree.

  12. Step 12:

12.create a spline (need not be the same in pic) on yz plane. you are creating this spline only to see how your hose is following the curve.in this case it follows the spline you just created

  13. Step 13:

13.go to sweep under profile type select centre and radius. select your spline created in step 12 as your centre curve, click law tab select advanced and click the law from the model tree in the law element tab close the law tab, select ok in the sweep command.
