Proper Method to Produce Lobster-back Duct Bends

3 1 Beginner
One type of industrial component I have been involved with the design and manufacture of is lobster-back bends. This type of duct bend is made up of segments cut from flat sheets or plates, rolled into cylindrical parts, then assembled. These can be light sheet-metal or manufactured from thick plate. This quick tutorial is a supplement to the one I produced an outline of a method I have used modeling this type of component using Alibre Design. As this supplement concerns producing parts ready for manufacture and applies to whatever software you have used, that is not important as this short tutorial is to outline turning your modeled bend into the flat profile ready to be made into the completed bend. In this modern world, the bend parts will be cut out using CNC laser, or CNC Plasma cutting machines. Sometimes we produce the nc programs ourselves or we are required to produce the correct files for the laser / plasma department to program and cut out. Making the program to cut out the parts starts normally from a 2D dxf file at a scale of 1 : 1. This is the first part of the process that has to be correct. If you produce this dxf incorrectly the finished parts will be useless. Producing this at the right scale, 1 : 1 is different with different 3D cad applications, other problems can be caused by you working in different drawing units. If you are not doing the program, talk to the person who is to make sure you produce the dxf as required. Having a large quantity of wrongly cut parts is not a good thing

LEGO - 03 Using Data from LDraw

20 0 Intermediate
Sometimes LEGO bricks don't fall into the regular 0.8/1.6mm rule. This will explain how to get "lumpy" 3D surface data from LDraw DAT files and use them to create your own intelligent parts. *I use the AutoDesk Inventor Pro suite, which includes Inventor Pro and 3D Studio Max. I will discuss using certain file formats, but you need to determine what your software will import/export. *I've been told that IV 2017+ will let you measure the LDraw data directly in Inventor, removing the whole 3DMax conversions steps.

Tutorial: How To Obtain Relative Accurate Results From Stress Analysis in Autodesk Inventor

FEA is not a simple mathematical operation. Instead it is a computer-based iterative numerical technique along with inevitable discretization errors, as a function of elements. Therefore these errors can be reduced by... specifying more elements (H-refinement) or employing a higher order of polynomial at each iteration (P-refinement). Effectively more computational power is required to solve complex shaped geometries with high dense mesh (Elements). But how dense should be my mesh to get appropriate results without wasting hours on simulation ??? This is the Golden Question! ... There is a criterion for that, called Converged solution... In plain words the mesh does not need any further refinement (denser mesh) as long as the solution is "Converged". The solution is assumed to be "Converged" when the results of the polynomial eq. does not change according to a prespecified tolerance e.g. 10% Good Results, 0.1% Great Results. So, let me share some information how to manipulate the mesh for a model along with three examples. As a conclusion we will enhance your confidence regarding the results you get, whether are relatively accurate or not (Low Percentage of Discretization Errors) without wasting hours on simulation!!! Don't Forget the simulation results are nothing without any experimental results to compare with.
